Call for Submissions
Spring 2021
You’ve read all the major headlines. Hope for a Covid-19 vaccine is here, wildfires are raging across California, and demonstrations are emerging all across the African continent. But what happens after the news has broken?
At the jfa, we are looking for stories on human rights that go beyond the big headlines, to understand how the issues of our time, which we concern ourselves with so often, are affecting communities that may have missed the spotlight. The news moves fast; it’s rare that we’re able to see nuanced, diverse stories of how major events impact people on an individual and local level. The jfa strives to amplify the stories, perspectives, and documentations of what’s been left out of these headlines.
How are marginalised communities still disproportionately affected by Covid-19, and how will they continue to be affected when a vaccine arrives? What perspectives have been forgotten in the climate emergency? How are demonstrations in your city impacting local, everyday people?
So, do you have a story to share?
Every story dominating the headlines - from elections, to pandemics, to protests, to natural disasters - carries consequences for wide groups of people all around the world. We believe these stories need to be heard. Do you have an article, poem, illustration, an opinion piece, or a photography collection that you’d like to contribute in order to spotlight the stories behind the headlines?
Pitch to us: marta@thejfa.com, or refer to our guidelines for pitches and submissions.
About us
The jfa human rights journal is a publication focused on human rights, with the aim to encourage new voices to explore what justice means to them, in whatever format they choose. During this global crisis, underrepresented perspectives need to be amplified more than ever before.
Disclaimer: we are unable to financially compensate contributors at the moment, but are working hard to change this in the near future.
