Join OUR TEAM
Hello!
It’s the jfa team, coming to you with good news that our little publication is still growing steadily. Over the past year, our team is also coming to terms with the fact that we have so many goals for the jfa, but not enough time or hands to help us achieve them. Some of these goals range from simple things like keeping our balance sheets in order to beginning production on our second print issue, including how to secure the funds to help us get there.
This is where you come in! We’re looking for volunteers in areas of fundraising and editorial to help the jfa continue to thrive. Below you will find the descriptions and responsibilities required for each position.
We actively encourage applicants who are underrepresented in the storytelling industry and, quite frankly, applicants with different backgrounds than our core team (South Asian, Chinese, White). Our work to support quality storytelling can only be made stronger if our team is as diverse as the stories and voices we amplify. It’s important to us that we grow and learn together as team members that don’t share the same lived experiences, skillset or even industry knowledge.
What we offer
This is an unpaid volunteering opportunity. Currently, the entire team is working with no pay and unfortunately we don’t know when this will change.
Continued guidance and support with regular check-ins
Professional recommendation letters/references
Attend all jfa workshops for free
Resource space access (forever!)
Opportunities to lead your own relevant projects
Partaking in an exciting, up-and-coming media startup
Friends for life!
What we expect
A minimum commitment of 6 hours a week for 6 months. If you’d like to commit longer hours, that’s definitely something we can discuss, but we are big champions of you maintaining a healthy work-life balance (and your sanity)
Availability to join our 2-hour team meeting on Sundays (15:00 - 17:00 GMT)
Willingness to learn, grow and share!
How to apply
Please fill in this application form by March 6, 2022, 23:59 GMT. We will aim to get back to everyone within two weeks of the application closing date. Successful applicants will be invited for an interview between March 7-20 so we can get to know you a little bit better. We will be in touch with more information about interviews once the shortlisting process is complete.
